Who runs Margin

Information used by the app

Margin processes your account information, including your email address and sign-in identifiers, to authenticate you and associate your content with your account. Clerk provides authentication.

Your notes, folders, checklists, saved links, extracted content, and related timestamps are stored to provide the app and sync your content. Notes are also stored locally on your devices for offline use. The service uses Cloudflare infrastructure and a PlanetScale database.

If you email support, your email address and the information you choose to include are used to respond and investigate the issue.

Search and content processing

Semantic search processes note text and search queries through OpenAI's embedding service via Cloudflare AI Gateway. The resulting numerical representations are stored and used to find relevant notes. This processing happens as notes are indexed and when you use semantic search.

When you save a link, Margin fetches information from its publisher and, where needed, services such as Spotify or Apple Podcasts. The destination receives network request information. Supported audio can be sent to Cloudflare Workers AI for transcription. Some transcript integrations, when enabled, use Supadata. Availability depends on the provider and the beta's configuration.

Content is processed on servers to provide these features. Margin does not provide end-to-end encryption of synced content.

Connected tools

If you connect an AI tool through MCP, it can access or change content according to the permissions you grant. Content received by that tool is also subject to its provider's privacy practices. Disconnect tools you no longer want to use, and review their policies before granting access.

This website

This site has no advertising, analytics scripts, account forms, or tracking cookies added by Margin. Cloudflare serves the site and processes technical request information, such as IP addresses, to deliver and protect it. Fonts and other website assets are served from this site.

Email links open your email application. Contacting us shares the information you choose to send with us and the email services involved.

Storage and deletion

Account information and synced content are kept to provide your account and the app's features. Deleting an item removes it from the active app view; synchronization records and backup copies may remain. Uninstalling the app does not delete your server-side account.

To request a copy of your data or deletion of your account and associated content, email us from your account address. We will explain any information that must be retained and verify your identity where needed. Copies already exported or shared with a connected tool are controlled separately by you or that service.

Your choices

You can edit or delete content in the app, export individual notes as Markdown, and choose whether to connect third-party tools. Contact us about access, correction, deletion, or other privacy requests. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under applicable data protection law, including the right to complain to your local data protection authority.

The beta may change as Margin develops. This page will be updated when its data practices change, with the date shown above.
